Texas Mountain-laurel (Pea family)

This is an evergreen shrub that grows slowly but will last for years. It gets to 10'wide by 15' high and has showy purple flowers in March and April. The flowers smell like grape soda. You can increase its growth rate by watering two or three times a month. The pods that it produces are poisonous, so keep them cut off the plant. Get a few of these and group them along your walkway and enjoy the fragrance.
